How to be transferred to foreign university

TRANSFER TO FOREIGN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION
Transfer to foreign university is possible after successful training not less than two years in the Russian higher education institution. Foreign students who plan the transfer to baccalaureate or master programs in the English-speaking countries are called transfer students (translated students).
UNDERGRADUATE TRANSFERRING THE TRANSLATION BETWEEN BACCALAUREATE PROGRAMS
The translation of future bachelors is more widespread, and it is caused, first of all, by training duration. On average the bachelor degree in Great Britain and Ireland lasts from three to four years, in Russia, the USA and Canada – four years. What needs to be considered when translating:
LOSS OF THE SEMESTER OR ACADEMIC YEAR
As a rule, when translating from Russian in foreign higher education institution loss of the academic year is inevitable (at best – a semester), transfer is made one course below. Progress on all disciplines, compliance of number of class periods of lecture, seminar and laboratory researches, level of knowledge of English, personal qualities of the student, public activity, sporting achievements, etc. is taken into account.
CORRECTNESS OF THE CHOICE OF THE PROGRAM FOR THE TRANSLATION
Foreign higher education institutions accept the most motivated foreign students. At the choice of the program of future training it is necessary to be guided not by similarity of names of the Russian and foreign programs, and by the maintenance of obligatory courses in them. The more coincidence, the probability of the translation is higher. There are students who when translating want to change the specialization considerably. It is sometimes possible, but only at well thought over and competently made motivation. Otherwise to the student will suggest to begin study with the first course. In more advantageous position there are Russian students planning transfer to universities of the USA and Canada. The first two years of a bachelor degree called in these countries of General Education (GE) are very similar on Russian – they are devoted to general education disciplines. At entrants at the time of receipt can even not be accurate vision of the future specialization – it is necessary to decide on the choice to the termination GE. The foreign students who are transferred to Great Britain and Ireland fall into more difficult situation, here special objects begin already with the second semester of the first year of training.

If English for translated students not native, then it is necessary to know English at rather high level and it is obligatory to have the certificate on delivery of special examinations of IELTS or TOEFL, and requirements to knowledge of language depend on the training level to which the foreign student is transferred.
DIFFERENCE IN SYSTEM OF ESTIMATES OF KNOWLEDGE
The Russian and western higher education institutions have different systems of an assessment of knowledge. Our many universities still use a five-point scale whereas in the English-speaking countries students gather special class credit periods, and their total quantity to the end of training becomes the main criterion for assignment of degree of the bachelor. Each course in the program has concrete credit “weight”, and its successful termination means replenishment of “a moneybox of knowledge” of the student by it. In the majority of higher educational institutions of the English-speaking countries the repeating an examination is possible only once, after the second failure – assignment.
ADDITIONAL TESTS
From all English-speaking countries one and all entrants (both Americans, and foreigners) have to present results of the special SAT test only to the USA. The test has two SATI and SATII levels, and the required level depends on prestige of higher education institution and/or the program of training. One and all transfer students (translated students) have to take these tests. It is necessary to know that in Russia testing of SAT is held only 3 times a year.
SCENARIOS OF THE TRANSLATION
Along with the direct transfer from higher education institution to higher education institution in the USA and Canada the option of the termination of the course GE in college with the subsequent transfer for the third year of a bachelor degree to university is possible. Many Americans act this way. After GE they go to work and come back for school desks to years at 28-30-year age. Than the college is good for the translated student? First of all, rather easier conditions of receipt. Some colleges of the USA do not even demand SAT! With the minimum loss of years from the Russian higher education institution it is the simplest to be transferred to college for the second year of GE, and then to be translated again, to the third year in that higher education institution which is necessary. In Great Britain there are a so-called professional education or Further Education received in colleges. The successful termination of the similar program (obtaining the corresponding diploma of National Diploma or the certificate of National Certificate) allows to be transferred to higher education institution for the second year of training at once.
