University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583 and is one of leaders in the United Kingdom. On quality of teaching and level of research works the University is considered one of the best not only in Great Britain, but also in Europe and around the world. University of Edinburgh treats the largest British universities with a large number of the taught disciplines. Now at University more than 20 thousand students (13 thousand on programs of a bachelor degree and 7 thousand in a magistracy and postgraduate study), from them 3800 — foreign students from 120 countries study. The first foreign students appeared at University more than four hundred years ago. At University three main colleges in which the medicine, veterinary science, natural sciences, technical disciplines, the humanities, pedagogics, the right, divinity, music and social sciences are taught. The academic activity covers 120 various subject domains, at the level of a bachelor degree specialization is offered more than on 300 various disciplines and their combinations. At the level of a magistracy and postgraduate study there are about 150 academic and research programs. By results of state examination of quality the research works which are carried out at university were referred to two highest categories. University of Edinburgh by right is considered one of the most important research centers of the country.
